Our client required comprehensive groundworks and hard landscaping to transform their tiered garden into a contemporary outdoor living space. The project involved preparing ground levels across lower and upper garden areas to accommodate large format porcelain tiling throughout. The brief included stepped access between levels at a retaining wall, creating seamless movement from the lower garden through to the upper patio area and rear door of the house. Raised bed planters were also required in two specific areas to add dimension and planting opportunities to the finished design.

We began with careful ground preparation, ensuring proper levels were achieved across both the lower and upper garden areas. Type 1 aggregate infill was compacted and finished with sand blinding to create a stable, level base capable of supporting the large format porcelain tiles. All tiling was fully bedded on cement and sand screed works to ensure longevity and prevent movement. The stepped access at the retaining wall was constructed to provide safe, attractive transition between the lower garden and upper patio area, maintaining visual continuity with the porcelain tiling. Raised bed planters were built in two locations as directed by the client, creating focal points and opportunities for soft landscaping within the hard surfaced areas.
The completed project transformed a traditional tiered garden into a stunning contemporary outdoor space. The large format porcelain tiling creates a clean, modern aesthetic whilst providing a low maintenance surface that will serve the client for many years. The stepped access between levels provides safe, elegant movement throughout the garden, and the raised bed planters add visual interest and planting opportunities.
